ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods split a doubleheader with Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon at Lou Brock Stadium using extra innings winning 3-1 in the opener before losing the nightcap 8-3. Washburn will look for a series split on Sunday as the four-game set wraps up with a single nine inning game.
Game 1 - WU 3, LWU 1 (12 innings)A two-run homer by
Tanner Johnson in the top of the 12th pushed the Ichabods to a 3-1 win in the opener. Johnson's two-run shot scored
Alex Head who recorded a pinch-hit leadoff double.
The Ichabods scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth when
Wes Jones singled and scored on a double by
Riley Krane.
Eric Schmid pitched seven innings allowing one run striking out six and was relieved by
Greg Mason who pitched four scoreless innings scattering two hits improving to 3-0 on the season.
Tanner Kilmer pitched one inning giving up a solo hit collecting his third save of the season.Â
Wes Jones had two hits for the Ichabods in the game who were limited to eight in the first game.
Game 2 - LWU 8, WU 3Washburn scored one in the first on a sac fly by
Kyle Carnahan scoring
Parker Gibson who led off the game with a single and then stole second.
The Lions came back with four in the bottom of the second taking a 4-1 lead. In the third, Washburn scored a solo run on an RBI single
Connor Crimmins scoring Carnahan cutting the lead to 4-2.
In the fifth inning, Washburn picked up another run when
Payton Soicher scored after leading off the inning with a walk when
David Gauntt reached on an error making the score 4-3, but the Lions came back with three in the bottom of the inning and added one more in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-3 win.
Zac Linquist pitched four innings dropping to 2-3 on the season stirking out one.Â
Washburn was held to five hits in the nightcap while the Lions recorded 10.
