Last time out
TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team won its fifth straight game in impressive fashion, racking up 13 hits in a 13-0, run-rule win over Fort Hays State on Wednesday, April 22 at Falley Field.
Washburn scored in each the first six innings to push the lead into double-digits, holding FHSU to just five hits in the win.
WU took a 3-0 lead in the first behind Connor Crimmins' seventh home run of the season.  Parker Gibson's bunt single was the first hit of the game for WU, and Gibson used his speed to steal second and take third on a strikeout.  After David Gauntt was hit by a pitch with two outs, Crimmins took a 1-1 pitch on a line over the left center wall to give the Ichabods the lead.
Johnson pushed the lead to 4-0 with a leadoff home run to right field, and Gardner followed with a double, moving to third on an FHSU error.  In the next at-bat, Payton Soicher scored Gardner with a ground ball RBI.
Another four runs in the third put the Ichabods up, 9-0. Kyle Carnahan led off with a walk, and after Gaunt singled, both runners put in motion a double steal that led to another Tiger error, allowing Carnahan to score and Gaunt to take third.  Crimmins' fourth RBI of the day came in the next at-bat with an RBI single, making it 7-0.  Crimmins stole second base and took third on a groundout, eventually coming home off Johnson's sacrifice fly.  Later in the inning, Gardner (who reached on a bunt single, scampered around from second on Riley Krane's RBI single.
The fourth inning saw WU add two more, when Tanner Triggs singled through the right side to score Carnahan and Gaunt, and another two scored off an FHSU error in the fifth.  With two on and two out, Alex Head's ground ball skipped through the third baseman's legs, allowing Krane and Wes Jones to come home.
Zach Linquist (3-3) started on the hill and went five innings in shutout fashion, allowing just three hits.  Linquist struck out four before Hank Wellborn took over to start the fifth and close the win.
Crimmins and Gardner each had two hits in the game to lead the Ichabods as Crimmins had four RBI.
