TOPEKA, Kan. -- The streak continues as the Washburn Ichabods won their 26th straight game over Lincoln with an 88-86 win in overtime topping the Blue Tigers.
The road to the 26th-straight win over the Blue Tigers (9-4, 5-2 MIAA) was not an easy one as Washburn (9-3, 5-2 MIAA) ended Lincoln's five-game winning streak while winning its second-straight overtime game. The Blue Tigers built an eight-point lead with 9:08 to play in the game after turning a 53-43 Ichabod lead into a 65-57 Blue Tiger lead after a 20-4 Lincoln run.
Washburn rallied and tied the score at 68 with an 11-3 run of its own as
Andy Wilson and
Cameron Wiggins each connected on 3-pointers during the run. The Blue Tigers jumped back out to a five point lead at 73-68 after a 5-0 run before Washburn again came back and scored 7 of the last 9 points in regulation capped by a
Randall Smith lay up with six seconds left tying the score at 75 sending the game to overtime as
Brady Skeens blocked a Blue Tiger layup right before the buzzer with his fourth block of the game.
In overtime, Washburn jumped out to a 79-75 lead before Lincoln would come back and tie the score at 81 with 1:56 to play on a deep 3-pointer by Anthony Virdure, who scored a game-high 31 points leading Lincoln. The Ichabods finished the game with free throws by
Javion Blake and
Robert Christopher and then a lay up by Blake putting Washburn up 85-81 with 38 seconds to play. A 3-pointer by Virdure with 31 seconds to play cut the lead to one at 85-84.
Cameron Wiggins, who led the Ichabods with 26 points, hit 1 of 2 free throw attempts with 22 seconds to play and the Blue Tigers' 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed as the Ichabods picked up the win.
Other leading scorers for the Ichabods included Blake who scored 20 points and Smith who scored 11 points. Skeens finished with seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds adding four blocks for the second-straight game.
Following Virdure's 31 points, Jaylon Smith scored 26 points and O'Shai Clark had 19 leading the Blue Tigers.
Washburn led 42-41 at the break and finished 27 of 59 from the field and 9 of 21 from 3-point range. The Blue Tigers were 31 of 67 and hit 14 of 30 from 3-point range. Washburn was 23 of 35 from the free throw line and the Blue Tigers were 8 of 15.

Last meeting with Northeastern State(Feb. 14, 2015) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team jumped out to a 16-3 lead and never looked back as they rolled past Northeastern State in a 92-68 win.
Washburn (13-14, 8-8 MIAA) stormed to the lead after shooting a blistering 58 percent in the opening half as they raced to a 52-29 lead at the break. The RiverHawks (6-16, 4-11 MIAA) were not within double figures of the Ichabods from the 14:29 point of the first half to the end of the game.
Kyle Wiggins scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first half after hitting 7 of 8 first half shots including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
In the second half Washburn cooled off to 46 percent hitting 10 of 22 shots and 5 of 11 shots from deep as they outscored the RiverHawks 40-39 in the second half leading to the 24-point win.
Following Wiggins' 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting and 5 of 7 from 3-point range,
Kevin House added a career-high 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting and
Christian Ulsaker had 14 points.
Alex North had a game-high 12 rebounds adding a career-high seven assists in the process.

Last time out for Northeastern State(Jan. 4, 2016) MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team dropped a narrow 78-74 road decision to Northwest Missouri State Monday night inside Bearcat Arena.
NSU fell to 2-9 on the year and 1-6 in the MIAA, while NWMSU improved to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the league.
Senior forward Dakota Caudill tallied a career-high 24 points while adding six rebounds in 27 minutes. Senior guard Trey Mohair poured in 18 points and fellow senior guard Killven Samuel added 12 off the bench. Samuel registered just four points total in the first half of the season and has erupted for 28 in his last two games.
NSU converted 50 percent (31-for-62) of its field-goal attempts, while shooting 33.3 percent (6-for-18) from behind the 3-point line and 46.2 percent (6-for-13) at the free-throw line. NWMSU shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) overall, 44 percent (11-for-25) from distance and 75 percent (21-for-28) at the line.
Justin Pitts paced the Bearcats with 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Conner Crooker added 16, Zach Schneider netted 13 and Chris-Ebou Ndow tallied 11.
The RiverHawks dominated the glass by a 38-27 margin. NSU also led in assists (13-12), blocks (5-0), points in the paint (42-24), and bench production (27-12). Northwest Missouri State led in steals (7-2), points off turnovers (16-10) and fewer turnovers (8-11).
