MARSHALL, Mo. -- In the first official game of the season, the Washburn women's junior varsity basketball team took down Missouri Valley's varsity reserves, 63-37. The Ichabods had three players score double digits en route to the victory.
Washburn leaders
- Taylor Carpenter and Hayley Thompson tied for the team-high in points, scoring 11 each.
- Carpenter hit three 3-pointers.
- Also scoring in double digits, Teagan Simmons tallied 10 points. She was also 4-4 from the charity stripe.
- Anna Hill drained two of the seven 3-pointers that Washburn totaled.
- Eight of the 11 players who appeared in the game scored two or more points in the second quarter.
- The team worked together to add 27 of their 63 total points in that second period.
The Ichabods will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Tip-off against Hutchinson Community College is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Lee Arena.
