MATCH NOTES | Volleyball set to face Bronchos, Gorillas this weekend

TOPEKA, Kan. --- No. 13 Washburn volleyball continues its six-game road trip this weekend as it visits No. 18 Central Oklahoma on Friday and a vastly improved Pittsburg State on Saturday. Friday's match-up with the Bronchos is slated for 6 pm, while Saturday's showdown will be at 2 pm. THEY GOT HISTORY
• Friday's match in Edmond will be the 19th all-time meeting between UCO and WU ... the Ichabods lead the series by a narrow 10-8 margin ... WU is 2-6 all-time when playing in Edmond.
• Saturday's match will be the 86th all-time meeting ... WU leads the series by a commanding 64-21 tally including wins in its last 18 ... in Pittsburg, Washburn is 22-9 all-time. 

STREAKING STARTS
Washburn's 17-0 run to open the 2018 campaign is the best start in program history surpassing the previous 15-0 mark set in 2009 ... the new record was set on Sept. 21 with a win at Lindenwood before being extended the next day at Central Missouri. 

CREAM OF THE CROP 
Heading into the weekend, Washburn is just one of three teams in Division II and one of 11 across all NCAA divisions left without a loss ... the Ichabods 17 wins is the most in Div. II ... of the undefeateds in Div. II, Washburn is the highest ranked team and is joined by No. 16 Cal State-Los Angeles (12-0) and unranked Wingate (11-0). 

SWEEPING SUCCESS
During its win streak, 11 of 17 Washburn's victories have been decided in 3-0 fashion ... entering the 2018 campaign, WU has won 308 matches in straight sets ... the program-record for most three-set victories in a season is 24, recorded in 2008. 

ACES HIGH
• Washburn's ability to gain points from the service has them among the nation's top 60 as the Ichabods are averaging 1.79 aces per set (55th), while its 104 aces is 30th in Division II ... in both categories on the conference level, the Ichabods are second behind Pittsburg State (1.98, 131).
• WU's 2018 season-high for most aces in a match is 10, which it set in the season opener vs. DBU (8/24) and a day later against UCCS.
• Six Ichabods enter the weekend with double-figure ace totals led by Faith Rottinghaus with a team-best 20 aces, while Shayla Conner follows with 19.
• In its five MIAA matches, WU has 22 aces with Shayla Conner leading the way with six.

TOUGH DEFENSE
The Washburn defense is among the NCAA Division II Top 50 team leaderboard in several categories including opponent hitting percent (22nd/0.118), digs per set (30th/18.38) and team digs (23rd/1,066), while its blocks (123.5) and blocks per set (2.13) are 34th and 45th, respectively.

ALL OUT ATTACK
In addition to its standings in aces and aces per set, the Washburn offense is among the nation's top 25 in several other categories such as kills per set (10th/14.36), assists per set (10th/13.47), hitting percentage (16th/0.254), team assists (11th/631), and team kills (11th/833).

THE LEADERBOARD
Washburn is among the top three of the MIAA team leaderboard with the exception to digs (5th), blocks (5th) and attack attempts (6th/2,195) ... the Ichabods top the MIAA in per set assists and kills as well as win percentage while being listed second in aces, per set blocks and digs plus opponent hitting percentage.

GET YO MAK ON
• Makayla Maxwell's 573 kills is 102 kills shy of 30th on the all-time kills list ... she posted a career-best 272 kills in 2017 and has averaged roughly 157 kills in her last three seasons.
• Maxwell's 319 career blocks is 17th-best on the Washburn record book ... she now trails legends Mollie Lacy (15th, 336) and Marissa Cox (16th, 327) ... Maxwell is averaging 123 blocks in her last two seasons and if she continues the trend, would put herself among program's the top 10 all-time.
• Maxwell's .355 hitting percentage is fifth on the MIAA leaderboardand places 50th nationally.

COUNT ON THE HAUS
• Faith Rottinghaus began the year ranked 44th with 579 career digs ... she has since added to her total and is now 28th all-time with 859 digs.
• Nationally, Rottinghaus is ranked 49th in Div. II digs (280) and 90th in digs per set (4.83).
• Rottinghaus has a team-best 20 aces this season ... her six aces against DBU on Aug. 24 was tied for third-best in a single-match.

COURTSIDE ASSISTANCE
• Shayla Conner continues to the climb the charts, now sitting at 15th on the career assist rankings with 1,193.
• Conner has reached the 40-assists plateau five times this season including a career-best 52 against UNK.
• Conner has a team-best 10 double-doubles for the year and has registered double-double efforts in each of the last four outings.
• Nationally, Conner's 533 assists is 54th-overall while her 9.35 assists per set is 87th.

ALLI TO THE MAX
• In the last three matches, Allison Maxwell had team-highs in kills (40), kills per set (3.33), blocks (12) and blocks per set (1.00).
• Maxwell is among the top 50 in Washburn's career record book for total blocks (43rd/139), kills (48th/381), points (50th/462.5).
• Among the MIAA leaderboard Maxwell is ranked among the top 10 in kills per set (6th/3.02), points per set (8th/3.46) and total kills (9th/163), while sitting at 12th in hitting percentage (.309).

THAT'S DEPTH
• Since entering conference play Washburn has four hitters with over 30 kills in the five match span ... Alli Maxwell leads the team with 63, while Erica Montgomery and Genna Berg has 56 and 46 kills apeice.
• Freshman Taylor Antonowich is averaging 1.53 kills per set during the five MIAA matches ... she receiving at .952 percent and has 45 digs and six blocks.
• Transfer Katie Heeter has been solid on the backline with 52 digs in her last five matches and 113 on the year.
• Redshirt-freshman Kelsey Gordon has become a more frequent part of the front line rotation ... playing 15 of the last 19 sets, Gordon has 18 kills (1.20 per set) ... she has seven blocks in that time and tied with Makayla Maxwell and Genna Berg with four solo blocks.

MIAA HONORS
On Monday sophomore Allison Maxwell became the third different Ichabod to earn MIAA accolades when she was announced the league's Hitter of the Week ... it was the third consecutive week Washburn was represented in the MIAA weekly awards.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Washburn is 10-0 this season when not playing at Lee Arena including a 3-0 mark in true road contests ... in the three last seasons, the Ichabods are 37-20 when not at Lee Arena including 20-16 mark in true road contests ... since 2002, Washburn is a combined 14-9 when playing in Edmond, Okla. and Pittsburg, Kan. ... WU last road win at UCO was Sept. 28, 2013, while the Ichabods last win at PSU coming last season. 

IN THE POLLS
With the most recent poll release, Washburn has been mentioned in 202 all-time AVCA rankings ... prior to the Monday's AVCA Division II poll, the Ichabods made their season debut at No. 21 a week early after being left out for 14 consecutive releases ... until last season Washburn was among the Top 25 for 178 consecutive weeks dating back to the final poll in 2003.

500-WIN CLUB
After helping Washburn become just the 10th NCAA Division II program to 1,000 victories last season, head coach Chris Herron began the 2018 campaign 29 wins shy of 500 since taking over at Washburn in 2002. Herron, who's already the winningest coach in program-history, also started the year six wins shy of 550 for his overall career.

50TH SEASON
The 2018-19 academic year marks the 50th season of women's athletics at Washburn University, which began with volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and  gymnastics. Although, field hockey and gymnastics are no longer available, the offerings for female student-athletes have grown to eight sports with the addition of soccer, tennis, and most cross country and track and field.
