No. 19 Washburn women's track and field team wraps regular season at Rock Chalk Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The women's track and field team turned in a strong set of performances Saturday at the Rock Chalk Classic, highlighted by multiple personal bests and a standout victory in the 1500 meters.

In the sprints, Kamdyn Wedel led the way in the 100 meters with a ninth-place finish at 12.30 seconds. DaMi'ya Richards clocked a personal-best 12.45 to finish 12th, while Emma Lohse crossed the line in 18th at 12.89.

Richards also impressed in the 200 meters, taking 15th in 25.97. Kennedi Knowles recorded a personal-best 26.08 to finish 18th, and Kynleigh Chard placed 31st in 27.98.

The 400 meters featured a cluster of strong performances, led by Lexie Fontaine's personal-best 59.25, good for 12th place. Knowles (14th, 1:00.70), Ashtyn Collins (16th, 1:00.98), Natalie Hillebert (17th, 1:01.46), and Bailey Collar (25th, 1:06.22) rounded out the squad's efforts. On Friday at the 2025 Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College, Fontaine finished second in the 800m in a time of 2:14.34.

Gracy Dorzweiler claimed a top-10 finish in the 800 meters, taking ninth in 2:31.08.

In the 1500 meters, Katy Menke posted a personal-best 5:02.21 to place sixth. In a separate heat, Riley Britton dominated to win the 1500 in 5:05.12. Eva Matteucci earned a personal-best 5:16.81 for fifth, and Libby Barnett was seventh in 5:31.75.

Marrah Spriggs recorded a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 18th in 1:11.81.
In field events, Roni Simeon cleared a personal-best 1.48 meters (4-10.25) to take ninth in the high jump.

Reagan Housley earned a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.70 meters (12-01.50), while Abbey Redd did not record a height.

In throws, Paola Castaldi had an outstanding performance in the hammer throw, finishing second with a toss of 57.09 meters (187-03), achieving an NCAA provisional mark. Tyler Smith (7th, 52.69m - PR), Adriel Holloway (8th, 51.97m), and Madison Kobuszewski (27th, 38.77m - PR) added depth in the event.

Smith also competed in the discus, placing 20th with a mark of 39.84 meters (130-08), while Ashlynn Flory finished 20th in the javelin with a throw of 29.74 meters (97-07).
