Ichabod track and field teams in action at K-State Haylet Invitational

Fresh off their stellar performances at the MIAA Outdoor Championships that saw the Washburn Ichabod women's team finish a program-best second place and the men finish third for the second-consecutive year, the Ichabod track and field program will be back in action in a last chance qualifier at the Kansas State Ward Haylet Invitational on Friday in Manhattan, Kan.

NATIONAL POLLS
The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team was ranked No. 24th in the nation in the sixth checkpoint of the season after finishing second at the MIAA Championships. The Ichabods started the season ranked No. 6.
The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team moved up one spot to No. 12 from No. 13th matching its highest ranking in program history at No. 12 in the opening week of the season.
 
EVENT SQUADS
In the event squad rankings, the Ichabod men's high jump squad is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the fifth week in a row, No. 3 in the pole vault and No. 8 in the 100m. On the women's side, Washburn is ranked third in the 100m, ninth in the hammer and 20th in the 200m.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE ICHABODS
Women - May 4, 2025 - EMPORIA, Kan. -- In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, the Washburn Ichabod women delivered a championship finale for the ages, clinching a program-best second-place finish with 117 points. The Ichabods shattered multiple school records, posted NCAA provisional marks, and showed their depth across sprints, relays, and field events.
Washburn record four point scorers in the 100m finals, tallying 18 points behind Ta'Mijha Nichols' silver-medal performance (11.78 – All-MIAA), followed by Alyssa Hutcherson (4th, 11.96), Maya Pattison (6th, 12.08), and McKenzie Hayse (7th, 12.10). In the 200m, Hayse ran a personal-best 24.36 for 4th, while Isabella Kupka also PR'd (24.45, 5th), and Nichols added key points in 7th.
Kereser Augustin put up a school record of 54.03 for 4th and NCAA provisional status. Kupka joined her in 7th (55.59, PR). Lexie Fontaine notched 2 points in the 800m (7th, 2:13.08), while Naiuri Krein delivered in the 100m hurdles with a school record 14.26 (5th) and was joined by Kaylee James (8th). Ashley Heavner added 3 more points with a 6th-place finish in the 400m hurdles.
The Ichabods scorched the track in the relays. The 4x100m team of Nichols, Hutcherson, Pattison, and Hayse clocked 44.87 – a new school record and NCAA provisional time, finishing 2nd and earning All-MIAA honors. The 4x400m squad (James, Kupka, Krein, Augustin) added more fireworks with another school record 3:43.48, good for 2nd and another All-MIAA nod.
Theresa Osei soared to victory in the triple jump at 11.87m (38-11.50), grabbing 10 huge points and All-MIAA honors with an NCAA provisional leap. In the shot put, Adriel Holloway earned 6th with a personal best 13.94m, also an NCAA provisional mark.
Final standings saw Pittsburg State take the title with 271.5 points, while Washburn made program history with 117 points in second place. The Ichabods' historic run included four school records, multiple NCAA provisional marks, and 16 All-MIAA performances, marking a new era for Washburn Track and Field.
MEN - EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men wrapped up the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships in Emporia with a third-place finish and a total of 107.5 points finishing in the top three for the second-straight season.
The men's high jump group delivered a massive haul, led by Jordan Dale's win at 2.12m (6-11.50), followed closely by Alessandro Di Gregorio in second (2.09m) and Aaron Newcomer in a tie for fourth (2.04m, PR). Combined, the event netted 22.5 points.
In the pole vault, Adam Wooldridge cleared a personal-best 5.07m to win the title and earn All-MIAA honors, with Logan Schwab adding a 5th-place finish (4.82m).
Justin Forde broke the school record in the triple jump with a first-place leap of 15.88m (52-01.25) on his sixth and final attempt of the championship, an NCAA provisional mark that secured 10 points. Ransford Nti joined him on the podium in third place with a mark of 15.31m (50-02.75), also provisionally qualifying.
On the track, Sam Baxter and Jake Muller each turned in PRs and NCAA provisional times in the 400m hurdles, finishing 3rd (52.57) and 4th (52.65), respectively. In the 100m, Eddie Craig placed 6th in 10.54 to score 3 points. In the 1500m, Sam Nesbitt ran a personal-best 3:52.63 for 6th, while Alex Adams came in 8th and Ross O'Brien placed 15th.
Washburn's relay teams contributed critical points as the 4x100m squad of Emeka Ogbonna, Eddie Craig, Davion Gardenhire, and Javier Lopez placed 4th in 40.83. The 4x400m team of Baxter, Tucker Groh, Jeremy Garcia, and Muller came through in 6th with a 3:18.19.
In the field, Caden Rhamy earned 7th in the shot put at 15.73m, while Jaden Magana threw a personal best of 14.84m for 10th. Ian Suther placed 13th in the javelin at 59.28m. In the 5000m, Shane Mullen led the Ichabod distance crew in 10th place (14:52.22), with Donald Kibet finishing 12th and Charles Fossey not finishing the race.
Washburn finished 3rd overall behind Pittsburg State (252.5) and Missouri Southern (135), closing out the meet with 107.5 points.
 
UP NEXT
The Ichabods are scheduled to also be in action at the UNK Last Chance Qualifier on May 11 before the NCAA National Outdoor Championships Meet running May 22-24 in Pueblo, Colo.
