The Washburn Ichabod track and field teams are back in action in two states as part of the team will be at Emporia State on April 16 for the ESU Relays while a small set of distance runners will be in California competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the LaVerne Leopard Invitational Thursday through Saturday.

IN THE RANKINGS
After the first three weeks on outdoor track, the Ichabods have the No. 5-ranked men's high jump squad in the D2 ranks and the No. 9-ranked pole vault unit. On the women's side, the Ichabod long jump squad is ranked fifth overall with the 100m group ranked sixth.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE ICHABODS
MEN-TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's track and field athletes split competition sites on the day, producing a strong collection of performances at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multis and the UCM Mule Relays, highlighted by an event victory, an NCAA provisional qualifier, multiple personal records, and solid depth across sprints, hurdles, jumps, and multis.
Jo Meaker Classic & Multis
The Ichabods opened the meet with an impressive showing in the 100 meters, led by
Tayveon Simms, who finished 10th with a personal-best time of 10.47.
Peyton Holmes also recorded a PR, placing 13th in 10.54, while
John Mark Bishop followed in 25th at 10.66.
Javier Lopez placed 33rd in 10.80, and
Crayton Rauch rounded out the group with a personal-best 10.93 for 40th.
In the 400 meters,
Bryce Cochran finished 15th with a time of 48.57, while
Tucker Groh placed 28th in 49.55.
Washburn's top performance of the day came in the 400-meter hurdles, where
Jake Muller claimed first place with a personal-best time of 52.57, earning an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
The Ichabods also placed fourth in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of Simms, Holmes, Lopez, Bishop, and Rauch crossed the line in 40.58.
In the high jump, Washburn recorded three top-10 finishes.
Aaron Newcomer cleared 2.03 meters to place fourth, while
Matthew Heckman followed in fifth with a clearance of 1.98 meters.
Slade Smith tied for 10th after clearing 1.93 meters.
Washburn was represented in the decathlon by
Alex Michiels, who finished eighth overall with a personal-best total of 6,100 points. Michiels posted consistent results across all 10 events, highlighted by strong finishes in the 100 meters, long jump, high jump, and 110-meter hurdles, capping a complete multi-event performance for the Ichabods.
UCM Mule Relays
At the UCM Mule Relays, Washburn competed in the throwing events, led by
Colin Heatherman in the shot put. Heatherman recorded a personal-best mark of 14.04 meters (46-0.75), finishing 15th and closing out the day's competition for the Ichabods.
WOMEN-TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's track and field athletes competed at two sites on Friday, turning in a series of strong performances at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi at West Texas A&M and the UCM Mule Relays, highlighted by a school record, an NCAA provisional qualifier, multiple top-three finishes and numerous personal records.
Jo Meaker Classic & Multi
The marquee performance of the weekend came in the heptathlon, where
Naiuri Krein captured first place with 5,356 points, earning an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Krein posted strong finishes across all seven events, including a win in the shot put (13.01m), runner-up finishes in the 200m (25.50) and 800m (2:21.28), and a personal best in the long jump (5.73m). Krein also placed sixth in the 100m hurdles, tied for third in the high jump, and finished fourth in the javelin, sealing the overall victory.
The Ichabods showcased depth in the 100m, with seven athletes in the field.
Ta'Mijha Nichols and
Maya Pattison led the way with matching times of 11.68, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.
Layla Lerus recorded a personal best of 11.89 for 16th, while
Lyric Reid followed in 21st at 11.99. Additional personal records came from
Kyra Ray (26th, 12.10) and
Kynleigh Chard (46th, 12.48), with
Kamdyn Wedel finishing 28th in 12.12.
In the 400m,
Kereser Augustin placed fifth with a time of 54.75, while
Isabella Garcia finished 12th at 56.49.
Kennedi Knowles added a personal best, crossing the line in 58.92 for 19th.
Ashley Heavner recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400m hurdles, clocking 1:06.59.
Washburn also earned two top-five finishes in the 4x100m relay. The "A" relay of
Lyric Reid,
Maya Pattison,
Mellanie Neudinger, and
Ta'Mijha Nichols finished third in 45.51, while the "B" relay of
Kyra Ray,
Isabella Garcia,
Layla Lerus, and
Kamdyn Wedel placed fifth with a time of 45.98.
Field events produced multiple personal records for the Ichabods. In the high jump,
Molly Worley placed fifth with a PR clearance of 1.60m, while
Shaydin Myers added a personal best of 1.55m for 10th.
Mellanie Neudinger led Washburn in the long jump, placing sixth with a mark of 5.81m, followed by PR performances from
Kaylee Hagerman (8th, 5.76m) and
Kyra Ray (10th, 5.70m).
UCM Mule Relays
At the UCM Mule Relays, Washburn continued its momentum with strong efforts in distance and throwing events.
In the 400m open,
Natalie Hillebert recorded a personal-best time of 59.81, finishing seventh.
Washburn swept the top three spots in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Ebba Wetterberg won the event with a personal-best time of 11:30.72, followed closely by
Riley Ammons, who finished second in 11:46.03, also a PR.
Cheyenne Hittle completed the sweep with a third-place finish in 12:07.38.
In the shot put,
Adriel Holloway placed seventh with a mark of 13.50m (44-3.5) to round out the Ichabods' performances at UCM.
