All nine Ichabods in the lineup had a hit as Washburn scored 10 unanswered runs in a 10-7 win over Emporia State in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday during Senior Day at Falley Field. The sixth-ranked Hornets held on in the second game for a 5-1 win.

The Ichabods ( 17-28, 12-23) will wrap up their season as they close out the four game series Sunday at 2 p.m. at Emporia State (45-7, 31-4 MIAA).

Game 1
Box Score

Starter Zach Engelken spotted ESU seven runs before he and closer Curtis Hamilton retired the final nine Hornet batters. In the mean time the Ichabods scored 10 unanswered runs for a 10-7 win.

Engelken, starting his final game at Washburn, allowed the seven earned runs off 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Ichabod bats were shut out the first three innings before they came alive with a run in the fourth, four in the fifth and then five in the sixth. All nine batters recorded hits and five of them drove in runs. Brett Sorensen's three-run blast in the sixth inning over the right field scoreboard broke a 7-7 tie and was the difference, giving Engelken the win.

Washburn got on the board in the fourth when Calvin Iversen drove in Sorensen on a single. The Ichabods then got four in the fourth on RBI singles from Sorensen and Dane Simoneau and a two-run double from Cameron Kasel.

Washburn entered the sixth down 7-5. Joe Hosey led off with an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error from the shortstop. Brian Gorges then drove him in with a single and then Simoneau plated Gorges on a double to left-center field.

With the score tied and Gorges at second, Kasel singled on a pop up down the right field line. Gorges could only make it to third as he watched the ball fall in for a hit, but it set up Sorensen's game-winning three-run shot, his second home run of the year.

Sorensen was 3 for 4 with four RBI and Kasel was also 3 for 4 with two RBI. The Ichabods finished with 16 hits and left 10 runners on base, six in the first four innings.

Hamilton earned the save, his sixth of the year and moved into a tie for fourth in single-season saves at Washburn. One more on Sunday would move him into a four-way tie for first.

Game 2
Box Score

Bryan Stroth pitched six masterful innings, allowing one run on two hits, but the Hornets broke loose for four insurance runs in the top of the seventh and held off Washburn's rally attempt in the bottom for a 5-1 win.

As Stroth was shutting down the Hornets, ESU pitcher Ryan Anthony held off Washburn. The Ichabods went scoreless with four hits in the first six innings. In the seventh, down 5-0, Mark Stoltz reached on an error to lead off the inning and then he later scored on Calvin Iversen's single. The Ichabods were then down by four with one out and two on but Anthony got a game-ending double play to earn the win.

Six different Ichabods collected single hits in the game with Luis Beltran Lopez' being a double. They left six runners on base and had a chance to take the lead in the fifth inning with two on and one out before Anthony threw two straight strikeouts to end the threat.

Notes
• Seniors Nick Barnes, Dan Egan, Tyler Blankenship, Stroth, Engelken and Stotlz all played their final games at Falley Field. The six were honored in between games.
• The Ichabods will look for a strong finish to the season and with a win Sunday they will have gone 7-3 in their final 10 games, five of them against ranked opponents.
