Ichabod MBB to host Wildcats in New Year's Eve contest

 Opening Tip
•     The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up the 2014 calendar year with a New Year's Eve game with Baker at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
•    The game will be the Ichabods' final non-conference game of the season.
•    On Jan. 3, the Ichabods will return to MIAA action as they will open a two-game homestand starting with Missouri Western. Washburn will then host Central Missouri on Jan. 5 before traveling to Northwest Missouri on Jan. 10 starting a four-game MIAA road trip. 
•    Washburn enters the game with the Wildcats with a 6-8 record after falling at Lindenwood 72-59 on Dec. 20. 
•    Baker enters the game with a 7-5 overall record after beating Haskell last time out on Dec. 15 88-76.
•    The game with Baker will be an exhibition game for the Wildcats.
•    The Ichabods are 4-0 in games played on Dec. 31 and have not had a New Year's Eve game since a 75-67 win over Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Dec. 31, 2011.
•    Kyle Wiggins needs 41 points to reach 1,000 for his career and Alex North needs 96 points to reach 1,000 for his career. In Washburn's 110-year of men's basketball, only 21 players have reached the 1,000-point mark. 
•    The last Ichabod to go over 1,000 points in a career was Will McNeill, who did it during the 2011-12 season en route to 1,701 career points which is third all-time at Washburn.
•    The Ichabods have never had two different players go over the 1,000-point mark in the same season.
•    The Ichabods have 30 regular season games scheduled this season and also had three exhibition games against NCAA Division I members Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma to have 33 games before the MIAA Tournament starts.
•    The Ichabods have used eight different starting line ups this season.
    
 Bod Notes
•    Alex North has recorded 13 double doubles in his career at Washburn … he scored his 900th career point against Lindenwood and has played in 100 games with 67 starts … he went over the 550-rebound total against the Southwest Baptist and enters the Baker game with 904 career points averaging 9.0 in his career.
•    Kyle Wiggins went over the 950-point mark for his career against Lindenwood … he has averaged 9.6 ppg in 100 games making 58 starts … he has scored 959 career points at Washburn … he also has gone over the 200-rebound mark for his career and he went over the 200-assist mark in Hawaii and has 217 for his career.
•    Ichabod junior Christian Ulsaker is averaging 7.9 points with 5.1 rebounds a game this season … he recorded his first career double double against Peru State with 10 points and 10 rebounds … he will miss the six to eight weeks after suffering a broken jaw against Missouri Southern.
•    The Ichabods have hit at least one 3-pointer in 324 games … the last game the Ichabods did not hit a 3-pointer was Dec. 30, 2003 at Missouri Western.
•    Algie Key had a season-high 22 points in the loss at BYU-Hawaii adding a season-high five assists … he is averaging 10.0 points and 4.2 rebounds a game in his first season at Washburn after transferring from Alabama.
•    Turon Parker is scoring 6.8 ppg this season adding 29 assists and 11 steals in his first season as an Ichabod … he had a season-high eight rebounds against Tabor.
•    Stephon Drane is averaging 5.0 ppg and 2.4 rpg this season … he missed the final two games in Hawaii with a knee injury … he has played in only eight games fighting a knee injury.
•    Kevin House is third on the team with 21 assists this season while adding 3.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game … he is 22 of 26 from the free throw line this season.
•    Jeremy Lickteig scored a career-high 19 points against Northwest Indian College going 9 of 10 from the field … he made his first career start against BYU-Hawaii.
•    The Ichabods are 67 of 224 from 3-point range this season with Kyle Wiggins hitting 12 of 33 attempts … Turon Parker has hit 11 of 33 attempts … Ichabod opponents are 97 of 265 from 3-point range this season.
•    Brady Skeens recorded a season-high 14 points in his second game of the season against Tabor after having his planned redshirt pulled prior to the Rockhurst game … he has averaged 5.3 ppg and 3.8 rpg in four starts.
•    Washburn is 258 of 302 from the free throw line for a 65 percent average while their opponents are 220 of 307 hitting 72 percent of their charity stripe attempts.
•    As of the last basketball stat reporting for NCAA Division II, the Ichabods ranked 253 of 350 teams in free throw percentage and they are last in the MIAA in free throw percentage.
•    Washburn is seventh in the nation in total rebounds with 506 and 20th in the nation with 109 steals.
•    Washburn is +2.5 in rebounding margin and have been outrebounded in four games this season.
•    The Ichabods have outscored their opponents 467 to 418 in the first half of games, but have been outscored 564 to 536 in the second half of games.

 Last Time Out For The Ichabods
Lindenwood 72, Washburn 59 • Dec. 20, 2014
ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods had their two-game winning streak snapped with a 72-59 loss at Lindenwood. Kyle Wiggins led the Ichabods with 14 points and Algie Key had 13 to lead Washburn (6-8, 2-2 MIAA).
Washburn trailed 29-27 at the break after the Lions shot 11 of 24 from the field compared to the Ichabods shooting 9 of 21 from the field.
Washburn cut the lead to 62-57 with 2:49 after a 3-pointer by Korey Fisher before the Lions finished the game on a 10-2 run scoring all 10 points from the free throw as Lindenwood did not record a field goal the final 6:41 of the game.
Washburn finished 22 of 51 from the field for a 43 percent average while the Lions were 22 of 39 overall. The Lions also hit 21 of 24 free throws compared to 11 of 15 for the Ichabods.
Washburn was outrebounded 26 to 24 in the game. 

 About Baker
•    Baker enters the game with a 7-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Heart of America Conference.
•    The Wildcats have won their last two games including an 88-76 win over Haskell last time out on Dec. 15.
•    The Wildcats faced Lindenwood in an exhibition game and lost 81-53 on Nov. 29.
•    EJ Carter leads the team with an 11.5 ppg average.
•    Javeion Gray is scoring 10.3 ppg this season.

 Last meeting with Baker
(Nov. 28, 2009) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods again used a blistering second half improving to 5-0 on the season in a 100-60 win over Baker on Saturday night in Lee Arena. The Ichabods also improved to 61-4 in games in which the Ichabods reach at least 100 points. 
The Ichabods trailed only 3-2 and only for 30 seconds in the win over the Wildcats. The Ichabods led by as many as 17 points in the opening half on three different occasions taking a 13-point lead into halftime at 48-35. The Ichabods were 17 of 31 from the in the first half converting 55 percent of their shots. The Wildcats were also over 50 percent for the half hitting 12 of 23 attempts including 7 of 14 from 3-point range.
In the second half, the Ichabods forced 10 turnovers leading to 14 points off turnovers stretching the lead to as many as 42 at 98-56. Washburn heated up to 57 percent in the second half hitting 20 of 35 attempts while turning up the defense holding the Wildcats to 8 of 28 shooting for a 29 percent average.
De'Andre Washington and Logan Stutz each had 20 points and William McNeill had 18, who scored 14 in the second half on 6 of 6 shooting from the field. Nate Daniels scored 12 hitting three field goals. Washington and Dezahn Otis each had four assists and Bryce Simons had five steals. Stutz was also 10 of 10 from the free throw line.
Sam Kenney led the Wildcats with 15 points off the bench.
Overall the Ichabods forced 19 turnovers while committing nine turnovers. The Ichabods finished with 26 points off turnovers and scored 15 second chance points compared to five for the Wildcats. The Washburn bench also outscored the Wildcats 47 to 21.

•     The Ichabods are 1473-992-4 (.591) all-time in the 110th year in the program's history.
•     Washburn is the eighth-winningest program in NCAA Division II history by victories.
•     Washburn is the winningest MIAA program since the 1989-90 season with an overall record of 522-238 since joining the conference and the NCAA.
