Washburn men's track and field team takes 2nd at SBU Invitational

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team finished second at the Southwest Baptist Invitational recording a team score of 71.5 points. Washburn brought back two individual champions, 11 top-five finishes, 21 personal bests, a school record and three NCAA provisional marks. Washburn returns to action next weekend at the Woodman Classic at Wichita State.
 
David Kibet crushed the Washburn school record in the 3000m in a time of 8:50.14 topping the previous best by 18 seconds en route to the individual title in Bolivar.
 
Romain Henry won both the semifinals and the finals of the 110m hurdles running a 13.97 time in the finals for an NCAA provisional mark. Henry also finished third in the 400m hurdles in a time of 53.47.
 
Connor Last and Josh Hopkins tied for second at 7.38m in the long jump for two NCAA provisional marks and a personal best for Hopkins. The 7.38m is the fifth-best in the nation this season.
 
Braden Rose was fourth in the discus at 47.64m and was fifth in the shot put at 15.51m. He was also sixth in the hammer throw at 54.10m.
 
Collen McLain was fifth in the 1500m at 3:57.75 and fifth in the 800m at 1:56.58.
