TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn women's track and field team continued its indoor season in strong fashion Friday at the Rust Buster at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility, posting a pair of event wins and a wave of personal records across the sprints, middle distance and field events.
The headline performance came in the 300 meters, where
Kereser Augustin captured the title in a school-record time of 39.20 seconds, breaking her own personal best.
Isabella Kupka followed closely in second at 40.06, while
Kennedi Knowles placed fourth in 40.78.
Lyric Reid added a fifth-place finish in 42.18,
Natalie Hillebert was sixth in 42.19,
Andria Williams placed 11th in 42.52 and
Ashley Heavner crossed 12th in 42.79.
Vera Gerasimova rounded out the group in 22nd at 44.54. Six of the eight Washburn runners in the event recorded personal bests.
Washburn also swept the top spot in the 800 meters as
Lexie Fontaine surged to victory in 2:13.07, a mark that met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
Jordyn Cleary finished seventh in a personal-best 2:22.10,
Grace Hovey placed 12th in 2:24.08, and
Mya Kafka clocked a PR of 2:29.30 for 18th.
The short sprints saw depth across the board. In the 60 meters, Kupka led the Ichabods with a sixth-place finish in a personal-best 7.70.
Maya Pattison followed in seventh at 7.76,
Lyric Reid was eighth in 7.78,
Ta'Mijha Nichols finished 14th in 7.84,
Kyra Ray was 16th in 7.88,
Layla Lerus placed 18th in 7.88, and
Andria Williams ran a personal-best 8.01 for 28th. Lerus also posted a personal best in the 200 meters, finishing 14th in 25.91, while
Kynleigh Chard recorded a PR of 27.80 for 44th.
The mile featured a large contingent of Washburn athletes turning in lifetime bests.
Grace Collins paced the group in 13th at 5:18.14, followed by
Jolie Evans in 16th at 5:20.16,
Ebba Wetterberg in 17th at 5:24.20,
Rylee Ismert in 20th at 5:26.20,
Riley Britton in 26th at 5:29.36,
Kenzie Ross in 29th at 5:30.99,
Riley Ammons in 30th at 5:33.32 and
Cheyenne Hittle in 40th at 5:46.68, all personal records.
Misti Schlabach finished 25th in 5:28.64.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Naiuri Krein led Washburn with a sixth-place finish in 9.18. Gerasimova followed in eighth at 9.31, Heavner placed 15th in 9.76, Chard finished 22nd in 10.00 and
Addi Webster was 32nd in 11.41.
Field events produced several podium finishes and qualifying marks. In the high jump invite,
Molly Worley cleared a personal-best 1.60 meters (5-3.00) to place fourth, while Gerasimova was ninth at 1.50 meters (4-11.00). The high jump open saw
Shaydin Myers finish second and
Roni Simeon take third, both clearing personal-best marks of 1.55 meters (5-1.00).
Kyra Ray placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.50 meters (18-0.50), and
Kaylee Hagerman recorded a personal-best 5.21 meters (17-1.25) for 10th. Hagerman also finished third in the triple jump with a PR mark of 10.83 meters (36-6.50).
In the pole vault,
Reagan Housley earned runner-up honors after clearing 3.80 meters (12-5.50), hitting an NCAA provisional standard.
Jayden Herl added a personal-best 3.35 meters (10-11.75) for 10th, and
Blair Brennan cleared a PR 3.20 meters (10-6.00) for 18th. In the weight throw,
Adriel Holloway placed fourth with a toss of 16.32 meters (53-6.50), while
Jadyn Falley finished 16th at 13.81 meters (45-3.75).
Washburn closed the meet in the 4x400-meter relay with a victory from Team B, as the quartet of Heavner, Collins, Knowles, Hillebert and Williams posted a winning time of 3:59.91. Team A (Pattison, Kupka, Krein and Augustin) finished seventh in 4:05.09, Team C (Ammons, Evans, Ismert, Ross and Wetterberg) placed 14th in 4:21.46, and Team D (Hittle, Hovey, Kafka and Schlabach) crossed 17th in 4:23.89.
The Ichabods will return to action next weekend at the Rumble in the Jungle at Pittsburg State.
