Overall, 66 teams, 1,086 student-athletes and 1,707 total entries highlight the two-day event.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field teams are both ranked in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's fourth checkpoint rating index of the season. The Ichabod men come in at No. 16 and the women are No. 27.
The Ichabod men were ranked a program-best No. 8 in the first rating index of the season. In the regional rankings, the men are ranked fifth and the women are ranked fourth.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE ICHABODS
MEN - TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Washburn men's track and field team turned in a strong collection of personal bests and NCAA marks as the Ichabods wrapped up day two of the Washburn Open presented by Jason's Deli.
In the sprints,
Tayveon Simms advanced to the 60-meter semifinals and finished 12th in 6.85, while
Ja'Laveyn January placed 25th in 6.96. The 400-meter group produced two personal records as
Isaiah Terry clocked a 48.79 for 26th and
Brayden Peek followed in 49.88 for 43rd.
Tucker Groh added a 50.24 to place 47th.
The middle distance crew added more PRs.
Trent Zimbelman ran 1:55.66 in the 800 meters for 30th and
Grady Buessing crossed in 1:57.54 for 37th, both personal bests. In the mile,
Alex Adams led a quartet of personal records, placing 17th in 4:12.75.
Shane Mullen (4:16.66) and
Taylor Karcz (4:17.12) were separated by less than a second while finishing 30th and 33rd, and
Kyle Wagoner added a 4:23.81 PR.
Donald Kibet cracked the top 10 in the 3,000 meters with an 8:21.68 finishing 10th, while
Adrian Lehman ran a personal-best 8:33.30 for 16th.
Washburn's field events were paced by a standout performance in the high jump.
Matthew Heckman and
Aaron Newcomer each cleared 2.04 meters (6-8.25) to finish fourth and sixth, respectively, with both marks hitting the NCAA provisional standard.
Slade Smith added an 11th-place finish at 1.99 meters (6-06.25). In the long jump,
Peyton Holmes placed 26th at 6.50 meters (21-4.00) and
Zuri Glenn was 28th at 6.45 meters (21-2.00).
Logan Schwab cleared 4.66 meters (15-3½) for eighth in the pole vault.
In the throws,
Caden Rhamy led the weight throw crew with a ninth-place toss of 15.61 meters (51-02.75), while
Colin Heatherman (13.58m) and Josh Grimm (13.11m) both recorded personal bests.
The heptathlon group capped the meet with a strong overall showing, led by
Drew McGilton's third-place finish with 5,046 points. McGilton opened the final day with an 8.39 in the 60-meter hurdles, added a 4.10-meter clearance in the pole vault, and closed with a 2:58.48 in the 1,000 meters.
Alex Michiels posted a personal-best 4,813 points to finish sixth, highlighted by an 8.57 hurdles run and a 3:00.29 in the 1,000 meters, while
Judah Bowell placed 19th with 4,082 points.WOMEN - TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 22-ranked Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team turned in a record-setting performance, highlighted by a school-record mile, multiple NCAA provisional marks and a wave of personal best performances on the second day of the Washburn Open presented by Jason's Deli.
Lexie Fontaine delivered the headline performance for the Ichabods in the mile, shattering the school record with a 4:50.67 to finish fourth. The mark was a personal best, an NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks No. 11 in NCAA Division II this season.
Kyla Lochtefeld added a 12th-place finish in 5:00.78 while
Jordyn Cleary posted a personal best 5:01.78 to place 14th.
Kereser Augustin led the Ichabods in the 400 meters, placing third in 55.87 for an NCAA provisional time.
Isabella Kupka added an 11th-place finish in a personal best 57.04.
Kennedi Knowles (59.17),
Andria Williams (1:00.14) and
Natalie Hillebert (1:00.30) rounded out the event.
In the 60-meter semifinals,
McKenzie Hayse (7.68),
Ta'Mijha Nichols (7.71) and
Lyric Reid (7.72) finished 16th through 20th. Hayse also added an 11th-place finish in the long jump at 5.50 meters (18-00.50).
The 3,000 meters featured a string of personal records, led by
Grace Collins in 12th at 10:30.87.
Jolie Evans (13th, 10:31.33),
Ebba Wetterberg (16th, 10:36.12),
Riley Britton (25th, 10:43.07),
Riley Ammons (27th, 10:46.13) and
Kenzie Ross (31st, 10:51.57) all set personal bests, while
Rylee Ismert ran 10:56.43 and
Cheyenne Hittle finished in 11:48.36.
Grace Hovey recorded a personal best 2:21.20 in the 800 meters, placing 24th, with
Misti Schlabach finishing in 2:23.51.
In the hurdles,
Kynleigh Chard ran a personal best 9.28 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, with
Addi Webster clocking 9.69.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Knowles, Cleary, Fontaine and
Ashley Heavner finished 14th in 4:01.23.
In the field events,
Reagan Housley cleared 3.72 meters (12-02.50) to place third in the pole vault and hit an NCAA provisional mark.
Jayden Herl added a personal best 3.42 meters (11-02.50).
Mellanie Neudinger took third in the long jump at 5.68 meters (18-07.75), while
Kaylee Hagerman recorded a personal best 5.29 meters (17-04.25).
Kyra Ray jumped 5.28 meters (17-04.00).
Alex Hart placed second in the high jump invitational, clearing 1.65 meters (5-05.00), with
Molly Worley finishing seventh at 1.60 meters (5-03.00). In the weight throw,
Adriel Holloway finished sixth at 16.05 meters (52-08.00) and
Jadyn Falley recorded a personal best 14.94 meters (49-00.25).
Washburn also excelled in the pentathlon as
Naiuri Krein placed second with 3,729 points, an NCAA provisional total.
Vera Gerasimova finished sixth with a personal best 3,406 points, also an NCAA provisional score. Krein's day included a second-place shot put (12.93 meters), a 5.52-meter long jump, a 2:26.66 800 meters and a 9.11 in the hurdles. Gerasimova added a 1.58-meter high jump, 5.46-meter long jump and a 2:34.12 800 meters as part of her all-around effort.
