Ichabod women's track and field team record 22 PRs on final day of Ichabod Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team stacked up NCAA qualifying marks, personal bests and strong finishes across the board as the Ichabods turned in one of their deepest performances of the indoor season.

The sprints opened with a strong showing in the 60 meters as McKenzie Hayse led three qualifiers into the final, finishing second in the prelims at 7.63. Ta'Mijha Nichols placed fifth in 7.76 and Mellanie Neudinger sixth in 7.78 to advance. Layla Lerus added a personal best of 7.82 for ninth, followed by Lyric Reid in 7.82, Kyra Ray in 7.88 and Kamdyn Wedel in 7.96. In the final, Hayse matched her 7.63 to finish second and hit an NCAA provisional mark. Nichols placed fourth in 7.67 while Neudinger came in seventh at 7.88.

Kereser Augustin posted another NCAA provisional qualifier in the 400 meters, finishing fourth in 55.20. Kennedi Knowles was 16th in 58.70, while Ashtyn Collins (59.80) and Andria Williams (59.91) both ran personal bests. Natalie Hillebert crossed in 1:00.06 and Grace Hovey added a PR of 1:01.23.

The 800 meters featured a pair of personal bests at the front of the Washburn group as Jordyn Cleary placed eighth in 2:16.27 and Riley Ammons 12th in 2:18.15. Ashley Heavner (2:25.27) and Mya Kafka (2:25.50) also recorded personal bests, while Misti Schlabach ran 2:23.76.

Washburn's distance crew continued the PR surge in the mile with Grace Collins finishing seventh in 5:07.54 and Jolie Evans ninth in 5:08.18, both personal records. Ebba Wetterberg (5:16.60), Riley Ammons (5:21.12), Riley Britton (5:21.53), Kenzie Ross (5:27.12), Grace Hovey (5:33.69) and Cheyenne Hittle (5:40.94) all added personal bests, while Schlabach ran 5:25.70.

In the 3000 meters, Kyla Lochtefeld finished second in a time of 9:51.44 shaving nearly eight seconds off the previous record. Collins finished next the Ichabods with a 10:30.87, followed closely by Evans at 10:31.33 and Wetterberg at 10:36.12. Britton added a 10:43.07 as Washburn packed multiple runners near the front of the field.

The 60-meter hurdles saw Naiuri Krein place ninth in 9.02, with Kynleigh Chard 15th in 9.43, Vera Gerasimova 20th in 9.63 and Addison Webster 24th in 9.75.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Augustin, Lexie Fontaine, Kennedi Knowles and Isabella Kupka added another highlight performance, running under the school-record time of 3:45.03 with the eighth-best time of the NCAA D2 indoor season.

In the field events, Kaylee Hagerman finished 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.71 meters (35-1.75). Jayden Herl cleared a personal-best 3.38 meters (11-1.00) to place 10th in the pole vault invite, while Blair Brennan took third in the open section at 3.15 meters (10-4.00). In the weight throw, Adriel Holloway placed third with a toss of 17.06 meters (55-11.75) and Jadyn Falley was 18th at 14.50 meters (47-7.00).
