Opening Tip•    The Washburn Ichabod basketball will open MIAA play on Thursday in Topeka when they will play host to Southwest Baptist at 7:30 p.m. on Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
•   Washburn is 3-5 this season after dropping a 90-80 decision to BYU-Hawaii.
•   The Ichabods have 30 regular season games scheduled this season and also had three exhibition games against NCAA Division I members Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma to have 33 games before the MIAA Tournament starts.
•   Overall the Ichabods are 3-5 and went 1-2 on their Hawaiian trip and had one game canceled because of flight delays.
•   The Ichabods are 14-10 in MIAA openers since joining the MIAA while going 4-0 against the Bearcats in their first MIAA game of the season since joining the league prior to the 1990-91 season.
•   The Ichabods have used five different starting line ups this season including three different ones in Hawaii.
•   Washburn will continue its homestand on Saturday at Missouri Southern on Dec. 6 before taking a break from MIAA play with games at Rockhurst on Dec. 13 and a home game with Tabor on Dec. 15.
 Hawaiian trip updates•   The Ichabods were scheduled to return to Topeka on Nov. 29, the day after their game with BYU-Hawaii, but the flight was canceled. On Sunday, Nov. 30, the Ichabods were supposed to leave Honolulu as well but that flight was canceled as well.
•   The Ichabods had travel woes on the way to Honolulu as two flights, the first from Dallas to Honolulu were canceled and a flight from Honolulu to Hilo, caused the game with Seattle Pacific to be canceled completely.Â
•   As of Monday afternoon (Nov. 31) the Ichabods were scheduled to leave Honolulu to return to Topeka.

Alex North has recorded 13 double doubles in his career at Washburn … he has scored his 800th career point against Southwestern and has played in 94 games with 61starts … he went over the 500-rebound total against the RiverHawks in the final game last season and enters MIAA play with 835 career points averaging 8.9 in his career … he missed the final two games in Hawaii with an ankle injury.

Christian Ulsaker is averaging 9.6 points with 6.4 rebounds a game this season … he recorded his first career double double against Peru State with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
•   The Ichabods have hit at least one 3-pointer in 316 games … the last game the Ichabods did not hit a 3-pointer was Dec. 30, 2003 at Missouri Western.

Algie Key had a season-high 22 points in the loss at BYU-Hawaii adding a season-high five assists … he is averaging 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds a game in his first season at Washburn after transferring from Alabama.

LAIE, Hawaii -- The Washburn Ichabods cut the BYU-Hawaii lead from 12 to one midway through the second half but couldn't get any closer as they fell 90-80 to the Seasiders.
Washburn (3-5) trailed 40-28 at the break but trimmed the lead to one at 51-50 with 12:29 to play in the game on a tip in bucket by
Algie Key but the Seasiders hit a 3-pointer on their next trip down the court to go back up four. The Ichabods cut the lead back to four with 3:35 to play with a 3-pointer by
Korey Fisher but Washburn would not get any closer than six the rest of the way.
Key led the Ichabods with 22 points in 25 minutes adding five assists and two steals while
Kyle Wiggins and Fisher each had 13.
David Salach scored a season-high 12 hitting a pair of 3-pointers. The Ichabods were outrebounded 42 to 27 recording only five offensive rebounds.
BYU-Hawaii (4-0) hit 13 of 26 3-pointers in the game compared to 7 of 15 for Washburn. Pablo Coro had 23 to lead the Seasiders and Scott Friel had 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Washburn shot 51 percent in the game including 19 of 33 for a 58 percent average in the second half and finished 17 of 25 from the free throw line while BYU-Hawaii was 21 of 22 in the game.
 About Southwest Baptist•    The Bearcats are 3-4 this season after going 1-1 at the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Classic.

Korey Fisher's putback with 11 seconds to play put Washburn up for good in an 89-87 win over Southwest Baptist in the MIAA opener as the Ichabods improved to 8-0 on the season.
SBU took an 82-81 lead off a 3-pointer with 3:10 remaining and then
Alex North went to the line and connected on one of two to tie the score at 82. The Bearcats came up empty on their next possession and a jumper in the lane by
Jeff Reid put Washburn up 84-82 with under two minutes to play.
SBU tied in on their next possession with a driving lay up with 1:35 to go in the game. A turnover by the Ichabods followed with 1:13 to play with the score knotted at 84 and then took the lead with 61 seconds to play forcing an Ichabod timeout with 56.4 to play.
Kyle Wiggins hit a fade away jumper from 16 to tie the score back at 86 with 42.8 left.
With 25 seconds left, North gained the rebound, but was whistled for traveling returning the ball to the Bearcats. SBU turned it over and Fisher followed up a Wiggins miss with 11.4 left putting Washburn up 88-86. SBU was then fouled going to goal and went to the line with 4.4 left.
Rashaad Brown-Peterson then missed the first free throw and tried to miss the second, but banked in the free throw. SBU called a timeout. Washburn got the ball into North and went to the line shooting two with 3.1 remaining.
SBU inbounded the ball from under the WU basket and their attempt from half court sailed to the right of the goal ending the game.
In the first half, Washburn trailed by as many as nine with 15:45 remaining at 16-9 before chipping away at the Bearcat lead. Washburn finished the half on a 13-4 run over the final 2:30 of the half as
Alex North hit back-to-back-to back 3-pointers pushing the Ichabods to a 49-44 lead at the break.
North led the Ichabods with 25 points pacing four Ichabods in double figures. He finished 8 of 16 from the field with eight rebounds and three assists.
Kyle Wiggins scored 15,
Jeff Reid scored 14 with nine rebounds and FIsher finished with 13.Â
The Ichabods finished 31 of 61 from the field for the game, but struggled from the free throw line going 20 of 36 overall. SBU finished 32 of 61 overall and 14 of 22 from the free throw line. Washburn had a 38 to 34 advantage on the glass limiting the Bearcats to eight offensive rebounds.
