Ichabod MBB to host #8 Mules on Monday night

  Opening Tip
•     The Washburn Ichabods continue MIAA play on Monday night on Schendel Court at Lee Arena as they will take on the No. 8-ranked Central Missouri Mules.
•    The Ichabods (8-8, 3-2 MIAA) won their second-straight game topping Missouri Western on Saturday in an 85-60 win over the Griffons.
•    The Mules fell in their last game dropping a 65-64 decision at Nebraska-Kearney. The Mules also had an MIAA loss 72-57 at home to Central Oklahoma. 
•    The Ichabods will be off until a Saturday contest at Northwest Missouri on Jan. 10 starting a four-game MIAA road trip. 
•    Kyle Wiggins needs six points to reach 1,000 for his career entering the game with Mules with 994 points and Alex North needs 67 points to reach 1,000 for his career entering the game with 933 points. In Washburn's 110-year of men's basketball, only 21 players have reached the 1,000-point mark. 
•    The last Ichabod to go over 1,000 points in a career was Will McNeill, who did it during the 2011-12 season en route to 1,701 career points which is third all-time at Washburn.
•    The Ichabods have never had two different players go over the 1,000-point mark in the same season.
•    The Ichabods have 30 regular season games scheduled this season and also had three exhibition games against NCAA Division I members Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma to have 33 games before the MIAA Tournament starts.
•    The Ichabods have used nine different starting line ups this season.

•    Alex North has recorded 13 double doubles in his career at Washburn … he scored his 900th career point against Lindenwood and has played in 102 games with 69 starts … needs one rebound to reach 600 for his career and he has 933 career points averaging 9.1 ppg in his career and 5.9 rpg at Washburn … his 103 career 3-pointers at Washburn rank 11th all-time and he needs six more to move into the top 10 … his 599 career rebounds rank seventh all-time at Washburn and he needs 20 more to move into sixth all-time at Washburn.
•    Kyle Wiggins has averaged 9.7 ppg in 102 games making 60 starts … he has scored 994 career points at Washburn … he also has gone over the 200-rebound mark for his career and he went over the 200-assist mark in Hawaii and has 224 for his career … his 994 career points rank 23 all-time at Washburn.
•    Ichabod junior Christian Ulsaker is averaging 7.1 points with 4.8 rebounds a game this season seeing his first action in almost a month against Baker last time out after suffering a broken jaw against Missouri Southern … he recorded his first career double double against Peru State with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
•    The Ichabods have hit at least one 3-pointer in 326 games … the last game the Ichabods did not hit a 3-pointer was Dec. 30, 2003 at Missouri Western.
•    Algie Key had a season-high 22 points in the loss at BYU-Hawaii adding a season-high five assists … he is averaging 9.3 points and 4.2 rebounds a game in his first season at Washburn after transferring from Alabama.
•    Turon Parker is scoring 6.8 ppg this season adding 29 assists and 11 steals in his first season as an Ichabod … he had a season-high eight rebounds against Tabor … he has missed the last three games after injuring his knee against Lincoln.
•    Kevin House leads the team with 30 assists this season while adding 4.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game … he is 31 of 36 from the free throw line this season for a team-high 86 percent.
•    Jeremy Lickteig scored a career-high 19 points against Northwest Indian College going 9 of 10 from the field … he made his first career start against BYU-Hawaii.
•    The Ichabods are 97 of 302 from 3-point range this season with Kyle Wiggins hitting a team-high 20 of 56 attempts … Alex North has hit 17 of 52 attempts and Andy Wilson has hit 13 of 33 attempts … Ichabod opponents are 126 of 339 from 3-point range this season … in the last three games Wilson is 7 of 11 from 3-point range.
•    Brady Skeens recorded a season-high 14 points in his second game of the season against Tabor after having his planned redshirt pulled prior to the Rockhurst game … he has averaged 4.2 ppg and 3.4 rpg making four starts.
•    David Salach has started the last eight games and has averaged 4.4 rebounds a game this season and he is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game in MIAA play, which leads the Ichabods during league play.
•    Washburn is 219 of 333 from the free throw line for a 66 percent average while their opponents are 239 of 334 hitting 72 percent of their charity stripe attempts.
•    As of the last basketball stat reporting for NCAA Division II, the Ichabods ranked 253 of 350 teams in free throw percentage and they are last in the MIAA in free throw percentage.
•    Washburn is seventh in the nation in total rebounds with 506 and 20th in the nation with 109 steals.
•    Washburn is +3.0 in rebounding margin and have been outrebounded in only four games this season.
•    The Ichabods have outscored their opponents 543 to 456 in the first half of games, but have been outscored 633 to 619 in the second half of games.

Central Missouri head basketball coach Doug Karleskint
•    is 11-2 in his first season as the head coach at Central Missouri and 101-36 (.743) overall in his fifth season as a head coach.

 Last Time Out For The Ichabods
Washburn 85, Missouri Western 60 • Jan. 3, 2015
TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods men's basketball led from start to finish picking up an 85-60 win over Missouri Western Saturday night on Schendel Court at Lee Arena. 
The Ichabods jumped out to leads of 7-0, 10-2, 20-5 and 24-8 in the first 13 minutes of the ball game as Washburn shot 54 percent from the field in the first half hitting 14 of 26 shots overall while holding the Griffons to a 7 of 28 shooting mark in the opening stanza. Washburn led 40-18 at the break behind 11 first-half points from Kyle Wiggins, who lifted his career total to 994 career points after scoring 17 in the game.
In the second half, Washburn (8-8, 3-2 MIAA) outscored the Griffons (5-6, 1-3 MIAA) 45 to 42 as both teams shot above 50 percent in the frame. The Ichabods were 13 of 24 and 6 of 11 from 3-point range while the Griffons were 12 of 23 going 7 of 14 from 3-point range. Washburn led by as many as 32 in the game at 63-31 before Missouri Western used a 14-3 run over the next 2:39 to cut the lead to 66-45 with 10:12 to play after hitting four-straight 3-pointers. From that point on Washburn outscored the Griffons 19-15 to take the 25-point win.
Alex North led the ichabods with 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting hitting 4 of 7 3-pointers. He also had four steals. Kyle Wiggins scored 17 points and tied a career-high with three blocks adding six assists. Kevin House scored a career-high nine points adding four assists and four steals. David Salach had a team-high five rebounds.
Cole Clearman led the Griffons with 19 points.
Washburn outrebounded the Griffons 32 to 28 and forced 14 turnovers leading to 21 Ichabod points in the game. 

 About Central Missouri
•    The Mules are ranked No. 8 in the NABC top 25 rankings entering the match up with the Ichabods with an 11-2 record and a 2-2 mark in MIAA play.
•    The Mules won the 2014 NCAA Division II Championship, their first since the 1984 season.
•    The Mules lost an exhibition game at Duke 87-47 on Nov. 8.
•    The Mules are averaging 79.4 points per game and shooting 52 percent from the field. The opposition is averaging 68.8 points per game and shooting 42 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc.
•    Rakeem Dickerson leads three Mules averaging double figures with 13.0 ppg. Dillon Deck is averaging 11.6 ppg and TJ White is scoring 10.0 ppg with a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game.

 Last meeting with Central Missouri
(Jan. 6, 2014) WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- A slow start coupled with cold second half shooting was too much for the Ichabods to overcome in a 77-63 loss at Central Missouri.
The Ichabods (11-2, 4-2 MIAA) trailed 42-31 at the break after falling down 8-0 to start the game. The Mules (12-2, 4-1 MIAA) shot 16 of 30 in the first half taking advantage of seven Ichabod turnovers leading to nine points. Kyle Wiggins scored 10 in the first half while North added seven.
The Ichabods went nearly six minutes between the first and second halves without a score as the Mules would lead by as many as 18 in the second half.
Washburn cut the lead down to 11 at 74-63 with 2:06 left but would get no closer the rest of the way.
North led the Ichabods with a game-high 16 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Wiggins 10 points. 
The Ichabods finished 37 percent from the field after going 9 of 29 in the second half going 1 of 9 from behind the 3-point line hitting 3 of 14 for the game.
Washburn was outrebounded 40-37. The Mules also had 16 offensive rebounds turning it into 18 second chance points.

•     Washburn is the eighth-winningest program in NCAA Division II history by victories.
