TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team jumped out to a 16-3 lead and never looked back as they rolled past Northeastern State in a 92-68 win.
Washburn (13-14, 8-8 MIAA) stormed to the lead after shooting a blistering 58 percent in teh opening half as they raced to a 52-29 lead at the break. The RiverHawks (6-16, 4-11 MIAA) were not within double figures of the Ichabods from the 14:29 point of the first half to the end of the game.
Kyle Wiggins scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first half after hitting 7 of 8 first half shots including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
In the second half Washburn cooled off to 46 percent hitting 10 of 22 shots and 5 of 11 shots from deep as they outscored the RiverHawks 40-39 in the second half leading to the 24-point win.
Following Wiggins' 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting and 5 of 7 from 3-point range,
Kevin House added a career-high 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting and
Christian Ulsaker had 14 points.
Alex North had a game-high 12 rebounds adding a career-high seven assists in the process.
Demone Harrison scored 20 to lead the RiverHawks.
Washburn outrebounded the RiverHawks 39 to 22 and the Ichabod bench outscored the NSU bench 56 to 27 in the win.

Last meeting with Fort Hays State(Jan. 31, 2015) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods held off a late charge by Fort Hays State picking up a 69-58 win over the Tigers in men's basketball action on Saturday night on Schendel Court at Lee Arena.
The Ichabods led 32-24 at the halftime break after holding the Tigers to 7 of 22 shooting in the first half and a 1 of 7 mark from 3-point range while the Ichabods were 11 of 29 overall hitting 5 of 11 3-point attempts as Washburn (11-12, 6-6 MIAA) took an eight-point advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, the Tigers cut the lead to three on three separate trips down the court with just over 13 minutes to play, the Ichabods responded with a 10-2 run over the next 4:12 to go up 48-37 with 9:04 to play as Ulsaker and
Andy Wilson each scored five points during the spurt. The Ichabods would go on to lead by as many as 15 with 7:38 to play after a 3-pointer by
Kyle Wiggins at 54-39.
The Tigers used a 15-4 run of their own over the next five minutes trimming the Ichabod lead to four at 58-54 with 3:06 to play before the Ichabods finished 9 of 10 from the free throw line over the next 2:39 finishing the game with an 11-4 run to wrap up the 11-point win.

Alex North became the 23rd Ichabod to reach the 1,000-point mark hitting a free throw with 27 seconds left in the game.

Washburn finished 20 of 49 from the field for a 41 percent average and hit 20 of 27 free throws in the game. The Tigers shot 49 percent hitting 19 of 49 attempts and each team recorded 32 rebounds. Fort Hays State outscored the Ichabods 26 to 18 in the paint.
Last time out for Fort Hays State(Feb. 14, 2015) Fort Hays State men's basketball fell by a score of 77-63 at Pittsburg State on Saturday (Feb. 14). The loss puts FHSU at 15-9 overall and 8-7 in the MIAA, while Pittsburg State moved to 15-8 overall, 11-4 in the MIAA.
The loss dropped the Tigers back down in the MIAA standings to eighth place, after entering the day in sixth.
Down 6-2 early, Fort Hays State used a 9-0 run to take an 11-6 lead. Pittsburg State countered with an 8-2 run to get the lead back at 14-13 with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half. The lead traded hands a couple times before FHSU used an 8-0 run, all scored by James Fleming with a layup and two three-point field goals to take a 27-22 advantage at the 5:11 mark. But once again, PSU responded with an 11-2 run to get the lead back by four with just over a minute to play. Dom Samac drilled a three-pointer just before the buzzer to make it 33-32 in favor of PSU at the half.
Achoki Moikobu opened the second half with a three-pointer to put the Tigers back on top. Again, the lead went back and forth six more times before FHSU went up 50-49 on a Royce Williams jumper with 11:12 to go. But that was the last time the Tigers would lead in the game as PSU went on a tear, using an 18-4 run to seize control of the game. The Gorillas led by double figures the rest of the way.
Fleming led the Tigers with 15 points, hitting 4-of-9 field goals (including 3-of-7 three-point attempts) and 4-of-4 free-throw attempts. Moikobu added 14 points and Dom Samac finished with 13.
Josiah Gustafson led the Gorillas with 16 points, followed by Trevor Gregory with 15, Trey Starks with 12, and Dakota Jones with 11.
The Gorillas finished 47.9 percent from the field, but an impressive 96.3 percent at the free-throw line (26-of-27). FHSU finished 46.9 percent from the field, but just 29.2 percent beyond the 3-point line. The Tigers turned the ball over 15 times and were outrebounded 33-21.
