Ichabod cross country teams open 2025 season at Wichita State

The 2025 Washburn Ichabod cross country season begins on Saturday at the 2025 JK Gold Classic hosted by Wichita State.

Timing
The men race a 6K at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 5K race at 8:30 a.m. Overall there will be 17 collegiate men's programs and 15 other women's programs.
 
WHO IS GOING
Scheduled to compete for the Ichabod women's squad will be Riley Ammons, Niah Blachly, Riley Britton, Jordyn Cleary, Grace Collins, Ayva Darmento, Jolie Evans, Lexie Fontaine, Cheyenne Hittle, Grace Hovey, Rylee Ismert, Mya Kafka, Katy Menke, Misti Schlabach and Ebba Wetterberg. The men's lineup will consist of Grady Buessing, Connor Burkdoll, Aidan Junior, Taylor Karcz, Adrian Lehman, Lukas Mehl, Logan Montgomery, Ryan Rochford, Tommy Roehl, Devin Trent, Ludovico Vaccari, Gunner Wagner, Kyle Wagoner and Trent Zimbelman.
 
WASHBURN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Washburn Ichabod men's squad is ranked third in the USTFCCCA Preseason Regional poll behind East Central (Okla.) and Northwest Missouri. The Ichabods are No. 17 in the National Preseason Poll.
 
MIAA PRESEASON POLLS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's cross country team was picked fourth and the women's squad was picked in seventh in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Polls that were released prior to the start of the season.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE ICHABODS
MEN
(Nov. 23, 2024) SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Washburn men's cross country team wrapped up the 2024 cross country season with a program-best 24th-place finish at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. The showing bested the team's highest finish of 26th in 2022.
Donald Kibet earned his second All-American award in cross country as an Ichabod after leading the team with a 35th-place finish in a time of 30:27.8. At last season's national championships where he finished 28th. His time was the ninth-fastest time in program history on an 10K course.
Charles Fossey placed 115th closing out the season in a time of 31:28.9 and Aidan Junior was 165th in a time of 31:58.6.
Tommy Roehl finished 198th overall in a time of 32:36.5 and Ross O'Brien finished in 211th in a time of 32:47.1.
Finishing in 222nd overall was Shane Mullen in a time of 32:59.7 and Sebastiaan Horselenberg was 229th in a time of 33:13.5.

The Ichabods will return to action on Sept. 26 at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo.
