Bill Baker - Football (1951-53)
Baker began attending Washburn in the fall of 1951, shortly after his honorable discharge with the US Navy and service abroad on the US Washburn. His fame was in football and he set three records his first season. But it was his senior year that proved to be his finest. He set two additional records scoring 14 touchdowns and 84 points that season. He was named the sixth leading rusher in America among small college backs and named All-American Team. He also led the Ichabods to the CIC co-championship. He was the second Ichabod to ever be drafted into the NFL as the New York Giants chose him in the 25th round in 1954. Baker graduated in 1956 and was inducted into the Washburn Hall of Fame in 1981.
