Ward Martin - Track and Field, Football, and Basketball
Ward Martin was a member of the Washburn track and field team during the late 1920s and early 1930s. He was inducted into the WU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982-83.
Martin set a Washburn track and field record in 1931 by running the 440-yard dash in 49.9 seconds. That record stood until 1965. As captain of the track team he ran the two-mile relay, the mile relay, the half-mile and the quarter-mile. He also played end on the football team and forward on the basketball team.
Martin graduated from Washburn in 1933 with a law degree and later served as president of the Washburn Alumni Association and was a member of the Washburn Board of Regents and Board of Trustees.
